Joining a coaching gym with a friend
Training with someone you know can make starting feel easier, while each person's goals and programme remain their own.
Shared company does not require identical plans
Two friends may have different experience, availability and reasons for joining. Discuss those separately rather than assuming one membership or programme will suit both. Ascend's small-group format uses individual programmes within a coached group, but availability and booking arrangements should be checked with the team. Do not rely on always securing the same session before deciding whether the gym works for you individually.
A practical checklist
- Each person should explain their own starting point.
- Check which sessions both of you could realistically attend.
- Ask about current booking and group arrangements.
- Keep a workable plan for weeks when your friend cannot come.
Put it into practice
A useful question is 'Can we start around the same time while following our own plans?' That lets the team explain what is possible without turning one friend's preferences into the other person's commitment.
