Making workout history useful to coaches
Choose a workout-history view that helps a coach prepare rather than simply collecting more numbers.
Context makes a training record usable
A list of weights is harder to interpret without the exercise, session and date that produced it. Coaches need to distinguish planned targets from completed work and recognise when a movement or variation changed. The software should make those differences visible. Avoid using an attendance tick as evidence that every part of a programme was completed. Different records answer different questions.
A practical checklist
- Check planned and recorded values are distinguishable.
- Use consistent exercise names and units.
- Confirm who can correct an accidental entry.
- Review the history from the member's and coach's perspectives.
Put it into practice
Build a test programme with a repeated exercise and a variation. Record a session and inspect what appears next time. If a coach cannot tell which movement produced the historical value, the display needs clearer context before members rely on it.
