Choosing a useful starting goal for personal training
Describe what you want everyday training to help you do, then refine the goal with your coach.
Start with something you can explain
A goal does not need to sound technical. You might want to feel more confident in a gym, follow a regular routine or learn a movement you have avoided. Tell the coach why it matters and what currently gets in the way. Avoid promising yourself an exact transformation by a fixed date before discussing what is realistic. This is a conversation about direction and support, not a requirement to arrive with a complete training strategy.
A practical checklist
- Write one reason you are considering joining.
- Describe your current routine honestly.
- Mention the practical barriers you expect.
- Agree how you will review the experience.
Put it into practice
A starting goal such as 'I want to know what to do when I arrive' can be more useful than a vague ambition to get fit. The coach can help turn that into a clear first step and a programme you understand.
