Security questions gym owners should ask software providers
Ask concrete questions about member-data access, account security and recovery before choosing gym software.
Look for verifiable controls
A claim that a platform is secure is too broad to evaluate. Ask how it prevents one gym from reading another gym's records, how staff permissions are enforced and how lost account access is handled. Separate routine backups from a tested recovery process. A recent dependency audit is useful evidence, but it does not prove that every application permission or hosted service is correctly configured.
A practical checklist
- Request a demonstration of different roles using fictional data.
- Ask how authentication and privileged account changes are protected.
- Understand backup frequency and restoration responsibilities.
- Confirm how incidents and important service changes are communicated.
Put it into practice
Record the provider's answers and any evidence they can share without exposing other customers. Revisit these questions when adding staff roles or collecting new kinds of member information. Security is an ongoing operational responsibility, not a badge that ends the discussion.
