What belongs on a gym owner's dashboard?
Build a dashboard around the decisions an owner needs to make this week.
Keep different time horizons separate
Today's operational questions are different from next quarter's planning questions. An owner might need to see an uncovered session now and review membership trends later. Mixing every metric into one screen makes both harder to find. Start with a short list of recurring decisions, then define the information each requires. A number without a definition or a route to its source records is difficult to trust.
A practical checklist
- Separate urgent tasks from longer-term reports.
- Label the date range and meaning of each metric.
- Make exceptions easy to investigate.
- Remove measures that never lead to a decision.
Put it into practice
For a week, note the questions you repeatedly ask staff or search for in spreadsheets. Those questions are stronger dashboard requirements than a competitor's feature list. Ask for a demo using those decisions, with fictional records where needed.
